Our Wildflower honey is sourced directly from beekeepers in the Southeast. It is a reflection of the flora found throughout the region. The color and flavor of honey are determined by the nectar sources the honeybees foraged to make it, and the honey will vary from throughout the year depending on what's in bloom. Wildflower honey is typically floral, bold, and rich in flavor. Our Hot Honey is made by combining Carolina Reaper peppers and our Wildflower Honey. Carolina Reaper peppers are bred in Fort Mill, SC by Ed Currie from PuckerButt Pepper Company. In 2017, they earned the title “World’s Hottest Pepper” from the Guinness Book of World Records. With an average of 1,641,000 Scoville heat units (SHU), it has rightfully earned its title; for comparison, a jalapeño tops out at a measly 8,000 SHU. Combining this spicy pepper with our Southern Wildflower honey brings the perfect amount of Southern heat mixed with Southern sweet. It’s a great addition to pizza, in watermelon salad, on a cheese board, or mixed into a margarita! At Apis Mercantile, we strive to create a new agricultural paradigm. We recognize that the food systems of the future are focused on regenerative farming techniques, regional sourcing, sustainability, and diversification. As a result of this commitment, we source our honey regionally to create a robust and viable infrastructure to source, bottle and distribute regionally produced honey food products. We are also committed to sustainable packaging at Apis Mercantile. All of our labels are made with an eco-friendly material, Terraskin; made of 80% calcium carbonate and 20% polyethylene resin. They are sustainable, water-resistant, and durable. In an effort to reduce single-use plastic, all of our honey products utilize Kraft Paper “raw honey” stickers in place of plastic shrink band tamper evident seals. We recognize that as people get to “know their food”, it is the stories and people behind our products that can inform/inspire/entertain our customers. Our 6oz and 12oz labels have QR codes on them, directly linking to product marketing and recipe videos for an augmented shopping experience.
