Bavarian cheese, brick-shaped. Almost as pungent as Limburger, plump, springy texture yielding small eyes. Smooth, with notes of bacon and onions. Perfect addition to a cheese plate for any occasion.
Backsteiner is known as a brick of gold due to its brick shape & orange washed-rind. Sennerei Gunzesried is the oldest cooperative in Bavaria, dating back to 1892. The coop comprises 15 dairy farmers with an average herd size of 16. Initially, the dairy produced only Bavarian Emmentaler, eventually diversifying their production to represent other German traditional cheeses, such as Backsteiner and Tilsit.
